Google's Picasa is a combination of the best of any free picture editing software I've seen in my experience combined with the simplicity of a graphical user interface (GUI - pronounced 'goo-ey') with large buttons. You literally just point and click and you're able to fix red-eye, crop, make a color photograph black and white, and much, much more!
Even better, when you're ready to save your photograph (after you've made your alterations), Google will give you 1GB of free space online to save your photos. Yes, I said FREE!
The Web Album feature in Picasa allows you to upload your photographs directly from Picasa, view and save others' photos, and download an album to your computer, if you so desire.
